Usability

Setup & Portability

The Quartz scanner can be unpacked and installed in moments. As standard, a simple tripod is used to mount the scanner. A tilting/rotating head allows the scanner to be manipulated to any position, while height adjustment allows the scanner to be manipulated around typical workshop objects. Other tripods and mounts are available on request.

The Quartz/DBE range requires only a single ethernet cable – plus power – to operate. As a result, it can easily be unpacked, installed and be operational within five minutes.

Export File Formats

The Quartz scanners include common export formats as standard – including .STL, .OBJ, .PLY, .PIF and .POL – supporting major analysis and CAD packages, including products from Innovmetric, Geomagic, Leios, Rapidform, CATIA and many more.

Additional export formats are available on request.

Hardware Configurations

The Quartz DBE family integrate powerful computing, allowing them to be operated from a laptop. The combination creates a powerful yet portable measurement solution.

Where portability is less important we recommend a more powerful desktop computer as the control station. This provides benefits to the user – larger screens are available, and the higher performance is a significant benefit in analysis of the measurement data.

Calibration

Multiple scans of a standard reference artefact are combined to compute a full calibration model. This procedure can be performed by users with minimal training in approximately 30 minutes.

Calibration is recommended where a scanner has been transported a significant distance, where the lamp has been changed, or where the temperature has changed outside the calibrated range. In addition, the scanner includes extensive self–checking, and indicates when recalibration is required.

The reference artefacts used for calibration can be used across a range of measurement volumes. Each scanner is provided with an artefact appropriate to its initial configuration. Additional artefacts are available should the user require to configure the scanner for significantly different measurement volumes.
